What is International Labour Organization ?

The ‘International Labour Organization’ is a part of the United Nations, which deals with resolving the issues of the employees all over the world as well as setting standards and policies to follow throughout the globe.

Established in October 1919, the International Labour Organization was the first agency of the United Nations. As of today, it consists of representatives from 187 countries out of which 186 are also a part of the UN, and the Cook Islands is the extra state. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the ILO has over 40 offices all around the globe which employs more than 2700 staff members.

For its exceptional work in keeping the peace among nations and ensuring justice for the workers while providing technical support to its member nations, the ILO was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in the year 1969.
