Ageism

What is Ageism ?

‘Ageism’ is discrimination against an individual based on his or her age. Although it is relevant to all ages, in the context of a workplace, ageism is mostly prevalent against older employees.

Although there is no specific law in India against ageism, an employee can approach a civil court if they have been discriminated against based on their age.

Ageism is also detrimental to an organization’s success and one cannot overlook an older employee’s depth of knowledge based on his or her experience!

HRs should include age as a factor in their diversity and inclusion programs and foster a multigenerational work culture to counter ageism and remove age-related stereotypes.
