What is Encore Career?

 

‘Encore Career’ refers to the short-term career chosen by retirees right after retiring to the time they can work. Mostly, an encore career provides a meaning and social impact along with remuneration and the individuals choosing it would be doing it for the benefit of society and personal happiness.

 

Generally, encore careers are seen in public domain fields like education, NGOs, charities, the health sector, social services, volunteers, etc. Many individuals take up encore careers as a way of giving back to society and being at peace with oneself in one’s old age.

 

A great example of someone who chose an encore career is Bill Gates, who retired from his position as CEO of Microsoft to pursue an encore career in philanthropy via the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
